Work Day #1

Work Day #1: Complete! It was a beautiful sunny day here in Colorado (which got the best of some of us. There were a lot of sun-kissed cheeks and noses at dinner tonight). There were five different work projects going today. You are going to here a little highlight from three of them!

***Just a reminder, students will be making a call home tomorrow (Sunday June 15) between 8:30-9:30 CT. The student will call the phone number he/she is most familiar with, but the intention is that they talk to their dad to celebrate Father’s Day. Students are allowed 5 minutes for the call. The calls will be coming from a variety of leader phones, majority of which will have Minnesota area codes. If you get a call with a 717 area code, it could be Brenna’s phone! Please answer it!

Annie’s: Annies house is located on a hill and has amazing mountain views. At her house we loaded chopped wood into a trailer and then brought it to her house. Then we unloaded the trailer, split the wood, and stacked it in her basement. The house was built in the 1800s so there is no heating system and the wood we stacked will be used to keep her house warm in the winter. After we finished stacking the wood, she made us brownies and gave us grapes. We all has lots of fun and are so excited for our upcoming projects! – Molly Bennett

Timberline (ongoing weeklong project): All of us working on Timberline focused on creating new seating by the volleyball net. We took down lots of rotten logs and shoveled out gravel and filled it in the steps. There was a LOT of shoveling but we had so much fun. By the time we shoveled out all the gravel we shoveled some more to create a trench where new gravel will go. It was such a rewarding experience and I had so much fun. We also took a beautiful walk and helped with landscaping for a staff’s house. I can’t wait to do more of these projects! – Eve Deems

W’s– Today we went to a house of an elderly couple that needed help with yard work. We spent the day weeding, mulching and power washing. The best part of the day though was when my group meet up with the group that worked on the trail. At the park there was a golf fundraiser with middle aged golf men and a BBQ buffet. Us being teenaged kids obviously wanted some food. So we crashed it. Well, we crashed it with permission of course 😉. As we were staring into the party through the window the manager came out and invited us in to have some food. We sprinted in line, and got some delicious pulled pork, bbq chicken, and all other amazing foods (including veggies 🥗). Once we finished eating our spectacular food we loaded the bus and headed back to timber line where we were too full to eat our dinner ☺️. – Grace Sell
